Rylan Clark-Neal to host revamped version of Ready Steady Cook

Rylan will replace Ainsley Harriott as host

| Updated:

Just weeks after announcing plans to helm the relaunch of hit ’90s game show Supermarket Sweep, Rylan Clark-Neal is set to host a revamped version of Ready Steady Cook.

The presenter, 30, is “so excited” to be lined up for the culinary contest when it returns in 2020 – more than 10 years after it was axed.

He said: “I’m so excited that Ready Steady Cook is finally coming back to our screens. To be asked to host such an amazing show for the BBC is such a privilege.

“After making the finals of Celebrity MasterChef, I know how tough cooking under pressure can be.”

The new 20-episode series will reportedly reflect contemporary cooking, taking in everything from budget meals to healthier foods.

The revamped version will also feature up-and-coming chefs like Mike Reid, Akis Petretzikis, Romy Gill, Anna Haugh, Ellis Barrie and others.

When it returns next year, Ready Steady Cook will pair two contestants with chefs as they go head-to-head in a series of culinary challenges.

The first episode will see the hopefuls given a £10 budget for their ingredients and 20 minutes to put together a dish, while factors such as chef timeouts and wildcard ingredients either help or hinder their efforts.

Additionally, in the revamped second challenge, contestants will have just 10 minutes to rustle something up based on the audience’s ingredients cards.

One aspect of the original show that will be retained for the new version is the tense final vote, in which members of the audience each hold up a card featuring either a red tomato or green pepper as they pick which team should win.

The acting head of BBC Daytime, Carla-Maria Lawson, said: “Ready Steady Cook is a celebration of the much loved BBC One Daytime show, reimagined for contemporary Britain.

“The premise of healthy, aspirational food being prepared against the clock will be familiar to the audience, as will the iconic red tomatoes and green peppers!

“This will be a series for the modern day featuring a brigade of exciting new culinary talent and with ‘Celebrity MasterChef’ finalist, Rylan at the helm, a teatime treat for a whole new generation of viewers.”

While viewers wait for Ready Steady Cook, Rylan’s Supermarket Sweep starts on Monday, September 9 at 8pm on ITV2.
