Meghan Markle to join Prince Harry and pal Beyonce at Lion King premiere

She's said to be a big Lion King fan

Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle is set to return to work this weekend with a royal engagement involving pop icon Beyonce.

This Sunday (July 14), Meghan will join Prince Harry in Leicester Square for the European premiere of Disney’s live-action remake of The Lion King.

The red carpet evening will be Meghan’s first since having baby Archie at the beginning of May.

Buckingham Palace informed royal fans last month that Harry would be joined at the event by stars including Beyonce, Tiny Dancer hitmaker Sir Elton John and British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, who provides the voice of villain Scar in the new film.

According to a report in Hello! magazine, Meghan will accompany her husband at the Leicester Square premiere.

The Lion King is believed to have some significance in their relationship, as they reportedly went on a date to see the stage production of the beloved ’90s classic back in 2016.

And at the reception for their wedding last year, Sir Elton performed the original film’s theme song, Circle of Life, for the 600 guests gathered at Windsor Castle.

What’s more, Meghan is understood to be good pals with Beyonce, who voices Nala in the remake.

The Crazy In Love singer paid tribute to her in a message about Black History Month on her website in February, where she wrote: “Meghan brought many Black traditions to her Royal Wedding including a Chicago-based Black pastor, an amazing gospel choir, and a young Black cellist.

“At the wedding her culture was front and centre, and she and Prince Harry have continued to push the race relations dialogue forward both near and far.”

Although the Lion King premiere will be her first royal engagement since giving birth, Meghan has made a number of public appearances since then.

She attended last month’s Trooping The Colour celebrations at Buckingham Palace, where she was pictured looking happy and healthy as she arrived alongside Harry and the Duchesses of Cambridge and Cornwall.

She was also spotted with Archie at a recent charity polo match that pitted Harry and his brother William against each other on opposing teams.

Most fans were thrilled to catch a sighting of the eight-week-old tot, but others found fault with the way the new mum was carrying Archie.
