Viewers of Life Stories were left in tears last night (Sunday December 5) as Kate Garraway chatted with Piers Morgan.
GMB presenter Kate, 54, had moving moments as she recalled how her family have been devastated by coronavirus.
But many of those watching at home also reacted emotionally to one particular event related by Kate.

Life Stories: What did Kate Garraway say about husband Derek Draper?
Kate vowed she will “never give up” on husband Derek Draper, who was hospitalised in March 2020.
He spent 13 months in hospital battling COVID before returning to their north London family home. He remains unable to communicate fully and has mobility issues.
However, while Derek still recovers, Kate is grateful he is still alive.

She explained: “COVID has devastated him, from the top of his head to the tip of his toe.
“His digestive system, his liver, his heart, his nervous system. We’re pretty sure the inflammation did pass through his brain.
“Fundamentally he is in a terrible state. But look: he’s alive.”

Derek’s anniversary card
Kate also compared her life to “a fiery furnace” or ‘falling down a rabbit hole’.
“The world went dark and I’m still looking for the light at the end of the tunnel,” she admitted.
Nonetheless, even though Derek struggles to speak, he has managed to communicate some very touching thoughts to his wife.
He is there, he has fought so hard to stay in this world and I’m not giving up on him, ever.
Kate added: “He will turn to me and say ‘I love you’. He is there, he has fought so hard to stay in this world and I’m not giving up on him, ever.
“He will have moments of clarity, then it’s like he disappears but then he finds a voice.”
She also shared with Piers and viewers how Derek selected an anniversary card, which moved many viewers.
The card had “so proud of you” written on the front and inside Derek had managed to write: “Very proud. Love Derek.”

How Life Stories fans reacted
“I was doing so well up until they showed the card #LifeStories,” tweeted one viewer, adding several crying emojis to their post.
Another person indicated they were also tearing up, tweeting: “Derek’s anniversary card. I have dust in my eye! #LifeStories.”
And a third person felt the gesture meant there was ‘hope’ for Derek – as well as other COVID sufferers.

Someone else added: “Derek picking out a card that says ‘so proud of you’ for Kate and His wedding anniversary. I am in tears.”

And yet another social media user contributed: “Seeing the card Derek Draper picked out and signed for Kate Garraway on their anniversary, despite being so seriously ill, is such a testament to the love they share.”
