GMB star Richard Madeley has insisted he’s travelling to amber list country France with wife Judy Finnigan this summer.
Richard admitted he’s “fed up” with the Government’s constantly changing travel advice.
What did Richard Madeley say on GMB?
The star explained: “People are starting to make decisions on the basis of their own assessments…
“I’ll give you a personal example, we’ve booked the Channel and we’re going to be driving to France at the end of July.
“We’re going to be going to France even though it’s on the orange list.
“The government says, ‘You can legally go but we’d much rather you didn’t as we don’t think it’s safe.’
“Actually, I’ve had the double jab, Judy’s had the double jab, we will quarantine when we get back…”
Susanna Reid said: “France says you can go!”
Richard then continued: “So we have judged that actually it’s safe to go and we will behave responsibly when we get back.
“I’d say that six months ago we’d have gone with the government advice, but we’re getting fed up with being corralled.”
Dr Hilary Jones then offered his advice, saying travelling by car is safer than flying.
He added: “If you’re in a car as a family, on the train, and driving through France and then staying at a place that’s private – that’s very safe compared to airline travel.”
However, viewers were divided with many hitting out at Richard’s plans.
One person said on Twitter: “@richardm56 shamelessly & selfishly booking trips to France, with no regard for the rules, doesn’t exactly help government enforcement, does it?”
Another wrote: “Good role model Richard, going to holiday to France when clearly shouldn’t be, no one is above the rules!!!”
What did viewers say?
A third tweeted: “Sick of hearing #richardmadeley on @GMB go on about him being #doublejabbed so he’s deemed it safe now to travel to France!!! You can still catch and pass on Covid even with the vaccine!!!!”
Meanwhile, others agreed with Richard’s comments today.
One said: “100% behind everything @richardm56 has said this morning!! From the idiots with the Queen’s picture to his holiday to France!”
Another told the star: “Love you on #goodmorningbritain enjoy your holiday, we all need one!”
