Brenda Edwards breaks silence on son Jamal’s sudden death

The Loose Women star and her family are 'completely devastated'

Brenda Edwards has broken her silence following the tragic death of her son Jamal.

The entrepreneur – who helped launch the careers of Ed Sheeran and Jessie J – died aged 31 from a ‘sudden illness’.

Just hours after losing her beloved son, Brenda issued a heartfelt statement on Good Morning Britain today (February 21).

Brenda Edwards pays tribute to late son Jamal

Susanna Reid read out Brenda’s heartbreaking tribute on the ITV programme this morning.

It read: “It is with the deepest heartache that I confirm that my beautiful son Jamal Edwards passed away yesterday morning after a sudden illness.

“Myself, his sister Tanish and the rest of his family and friends are completely devastated. He was the centre of our world.”

Our love for him lives on, his legacy lives on.

Brenda, 52, continued: “As we come to terms with his passing, we ask for privacy to grieve this unimaginable loss. I would like to thank everyone for their messages of love and support.

“Jamal was an inspiration to myself and so many. Our love for him lives on, his legacy lives on. Long live Jamal Edwards MBE, MBA, PHD.”

Jamal was the eldest of the Loose Women star’s two children.

GMB viewers rushed to show their support to Brenda and her family, with one saying: “So sad… sorry for your loss Brenda and family.”

A second tweeted: “Heard last night, absolutely devastated for @brenda_edwards and her family. Jamal was part of so many life’s and will be a great loss.

“Sending my deepest condolences to her and her family. Jamal Edwards MBE. RIP.”

Loose Women stars support Brenda

Meanwhile, Brenda’s Loose Women co-stars also posted their condolences.

On Twitter, Denise Welch shared: “My heart aches for my friend Brenda. I can’t bear it. Jamal Edwards was a wonderful son and brother.”

Ruth Langsford wrote: “My heart is breaking for my friend @brendaedwardsglobal after the loss of her amazing son Jamal yesterday. I can only imagine her unbearable pain. Grief is the price we pay for love.

“The @loosewomen will wrap our arms around her and try to fill her with all the strength we have. My condolences and love to you my darling friend, Tanisha and all your family. RIP Jamal.”

Charlene White added: “Your light shone so brightly that it touched so many of us, impacted the lives of many more, and changed the game forever. And, you are my Brenda’s son.

Jamal was appointed an MBE for services to music in 2014.

The late star founded the online urban music platform SB.TV.
