Vile Katie Hopkins tweet ‘drove Jesy Nelson to suicide attempt’

Jesy Nelson starved herself for weeks

Little Mix's Jesy Nelson recently revealed that she attempted to take her own life following a horrible social media bullying.

In new BBC Three documentary Jesy Nelson: Odd One Out, to be aired on Thursday, the pop star burst into tears as she opened up about her experiences with online trolls and her suicide attempt.

Jesy reveals in the film that she "starved herself for a week" before returning to perform on The X Factor back in November 2013 after receiving constant abuse on social media about her weight.

After this performance, Hopkins tweeted: "Packet Mix have still got a chubber in their ranks. Less Little Mix. More Pick n Mix."

Jesy refers to the abuse after this TV appearance as the "pinnacle point" of her distress; she then spiralled out of control and tried to end her life.

Speaking about the abuse in the moving programme, Jesy adds: "All I remember feeling at that time is what’s the [bleep] point?

"I starved myself for a week and I’m still getting called fat. I could be the skinniest girl in the world and this is never going to go away.

"That is the pinnacle point for me when I got severely depressed and it just spiralled out of control."

Jesy recalls the moment leaving a restaurant with her mum and how she couldn't shake the feeling that everyone was talking about her and judging her.

Jesy is visibly distressed as she recounts this traumatic period in her life, explaining: "I was sat in bed thinking, 'This is never going to go. I’m going to constantly wake up and feel sad for the rest of my life so what is the point in being here. There is no point in waking up and feeling sad everyday.'

"I remember feeling, 'This has to go away' and it was the first time I thought, 'I’m going to do this, I’m going to end this.'

"I remember going to the kitchen and I took as many tablets as I could.

"I just laid in bed for ages and thought ‘hurry up and let it happen’.

"My ex who was with me at the time woke up and said ‘why are you crying?’ I said ‘I just want to die. I just want it to go away’."

Jesy then revealed that her ex-boyfriend forced her to be sick and called an ambulance.

After reading about Jesy's plight, Gemma Collins took to Instagram and demanded that everybody boycott social media.

She posted a pic of her from Lorraine earlier that day and in the caption, Gemma wrote: "After seeing JESY NELSON nearly take her own life because of social media TROLLS.

"To everyone that said horrible things on social media and to her especially you all would have had blood on your hands if anything would have happened to her!

"I do think everyone should BOYCOTT social media until these companies put a FIRM STANCE in place if you abuse or troll then you're banned for LIFE .... social media could be amazing and so positive."

Jesy Nelson: Odd One out airs on BBC One at 9pm, Thursday, and will also be available on BBC iPlayer from this time.
