Gemma Collins demands social media boycott after Jesy Nelson reveals suicide attempt

Gemma has called for people to boycott social media after hearing Jesy Nelson's story

Reality star Gemma Collins has called on her fans to boycott social media after Jesy Nelson revealed she had attempted suicide after receiving vicious online abuse.

Little Mix star Jesy was speaking out for the first time as she revealed after the band won The X Factor in 2011 she was targeted by trolls.

Jesy, 28, revealed the bullying was so horrific she began to starve herself and at her lowest point, in 2013, she attempted to take her own life.

Responding to Jesy's admission, Gemma took to social media to encourage others to make a stand against online bullying.

Posting a link to Jesy's interview, Gemma, 38, wrote on Twitter: "Everyone should boycott, all stand together for these social media companies to ban people not used in a positive way she's beautiful and talented and thank god they didn't get the better of her [sic]."

While on Instagram Gemma passionately said: "After seeing JESY NELSON nearly take her own life because of social media TROLLS ....

"To everyone that said horrible things on social media and to her especially you all would have had blood on your hands if anything would have happened to her!

I do think everyone should BOYCOTT social media until these companies put a FIRM STANCE in place if you abuse or troll then you're banned for LIFE.

"A lot of us go through it in the public eye. We either need to all stop using social media platforms until they make a change because they have the power to ban anyone that is trolling. It should be a positive place."

Gemma continued: "To think she was going to take her life is absolutely shocking and we must all support her and get behind this.

"We need to speak to Twitter and Instagram and Facebook because enough is not being done, Lorraine, and it's heartbreaking."

The TOWIE star said she doesn't look at comments herself, but she's also grown a thick skin over the years.

"I personally don't look at it because it can really affect you. Has it affected me in the past? Probably. But I have got a thick skin.

"If anything, I feel more sorry for them writing it because it's their own insecurities and they're seeing something in you that they haven't got," Gemma added.
