Gyles Brandreth proved an unlikely source of some TV ribaldry earlier today after he let a bit of ‘bad language’ escape his mouth.
The telly wit, 71, inadvertently turned the air a little blue on Sunday Brunch after repeating words he’d picked up from watching Love Island.
The broadcaster has appeared on the Celebrity Gogglebox sofa alongside actress Sheila Hancock on many occasions over the past years or so.
But there’s every chance his Channel 4 appearance from this morning could end up on the couch potato critic show as well after he dropped a Maura Higgins catchphrase – which for the very sensitive of nature rhymes with ‘Danny Butters’. Maybe give it a Google.

Maura used the phrase to describe the exaggerated physical effect the sight of Tommy Fury caused her to experience.
“What a wonderful experience,” Gyles reflected on being part of Celebrity Gogglebox, rather than Maura’s experience.
“Having to explain to Sheila what a [bleep] is, that really was quite an amazing thing.”
With the other guests in hysterics, host Tim Lovejoy appeared somewhat surprised – but managed to cover for the Sunday daytime slip.

“I think I may have to apologise for that one, so apologies to anyone who’s offended by that,” Tim intervened.
Gyles protested: “Well, I didn’t know what it meant so I didn’t know what I was saying!”
Whether they believed Gyles or not, plenty of people at home thought the moment was hilarious.
“Didn’t think I’d see the day where [bleep] is mentioned on Sunday Brunch!” tweeted one tickled viewer.
Another person watching laughed: “Ha ha #sundaybrunch. Gyles Brandreth just said [bleep] at 11am on a Sunday.”
A third person added: “#Sundaybrunch I have not laughed so much… Gyles is the best!”

And a fourth contributed: “Highlight of my Sunday so far is @GylesB1 on @SundayBrunchC4 mentioning [bleep] 😂.”
A fifth observer took considerable joy in the host’s moment of on air discomfort, commenting: “Lmao, Tim’s face when Giles said [bleep].”
Indeed, Tim’s reaction seemed to entertain those watching as much as Gyles’ cheeky remark.
“Don’t think you expected him to say that! 🤣🤣🤣,” chuckled another fan.
“Watching @timlovejoy panic is hilarious 🤣🤣,” agreed another.
And yet another fan said: “I’m in stitches watching @GylesB1 on @SundayBrunchC4. @timlovejoy’s face throughout… he just never knows what going to come out Gyles’ mouth next 😂.”
