MasterChef viewers gag as John Torode and Gregg Wallace served RAW chicken

The judges refused to eat it

If you were tuning in to Wednesday night’s MasterChef to see some delectable dishes, you were seriously out of luck.

The foodie show left viewers gagging as one contestant served up RAW chicken to the judges, who refused to eat it.

In the second episode of the new series, contestant Ottilie chose to cook up some chicken thighs into a stew – with one hour and ten minutes to work – but it clearly wasn’t long enough.

The marketing manager said her tactic for winning was “flavour, flavour, flavour”.

But judge John Torode warned her as she cooked: “That stew probably needs a lot longer than one hour and ten minutes. But the ingredients are right, so it could be really delicious.”

But as John and Gregg Wallace reviewed 27-yer-old Ottilie’s dish, the presenters paled at the sight of the pink flesh, which can contain deadly salmonella.

Gregg, 54, told her: “This chicken skin needs more cooking.”

She nodded, saying: “Yes, I agree.”

John, 55, went for a bite before stopping, saying: “No. Can’t eat that.”

Gregg then complimented the sweet potato, but added: “As you can clearly see, not only is the chicken skin not cooked, but the chicken itself isn’t cooked.”

Ottilie admitted she was “cross” it was such a “rookie error”.

Unsurprisingly, when it came to sending contestants home, she was top of the list.

Chef Gregg said: “I’m sorry but I think Ottilie’s gotta go. We had an uncooked skin and uncooked chicken flesh!”

John agreed, saying: “Yep, Ottilie’s going home.”

Viewers were truly horrified by the meal, with one tweeting: “Someone just served raw chicken on #masterchef 😭😭 I’m an awful cook and I’d still do better than that.”

Another commented: “I’ve watched #Masterchef since it’s origin and can honestly say hand on heart I can cook better than any of them. Like how [the bleep] do they pick someone that can’t cook a chicken thigh?”

A third moaned: “Someone really served an unseasoned, undercooked chicken thigh on Masterchef 🤦🏻‍♂️.”

Another warned: “You can’t do undercooked chicken on Masterchef. Don’t do it anywhere! The only time I ever had serious food poisoning was down to chicken – it can make you very ill.”
