EastEnders SPOILER: Doctor Legg dies

Heartache ahead for Dot

It’s the end of an era when legendary Doctor Legg sadly dies in EastEnders next week.

Ever since Dot Cotton got back in touch with her old friend Harold Legg, she has known that he was battling cancer and had turned down treatment to prolong his life.

At the grand old age of 98 Doctor Legg told Dot that he didn’t want to spend his last days hooked up to a machine, but rather live life to the full.

And, despite some menacing behaviour from sinister Stuart Highway, who thought the good doctor was getting in his way of manipulating Dot, it’s fair to say that Doctor Legg has enjoyed being back on his old stomping ground recently.

But after a brush with death a few weeks ago, Harold has been in hospital and next week Sonia recieves the sad news that Doctor Legg doesn’t want to return home for his last weeks, and she’s forced to break the news to Dot.

Dot’s understandably heartbroken at the thought of her friend dying in hospital and she visits him to try and persuade him to change his mind.

But Doctor Legg isn’t having any of it and is adamant that he wants to stay put.

Could his determination to stay in hospital have something to do with the fact he doesn’t want to come face-to-face with Stuart again? And, if so, who can blame him?

Deciding she needs back up to change Harold’s mind, Dot enlists Stuart to help.

And it seems something Mr Highway does certainly works because the next day Sonia is called to go and collect him from the hospital and bring him home.

Sonia is left touched when Doctor Legg shares some of his fondest memories with her, especially when he shows her a medallion that his father gave him and his wife, Judith.

Seeing how important these things are to Doctor Legg leaves Sonia moved, and she vows to make his time left in Walford memorable.

Back on the Square Dot is in full preparation mode for her friends homecoming, but it’s only when Doctor Legg arrives that everyone realises just how frail he really is.

Knowing that he could die at any moment, Bex struggles to cope with the enormity of the situation and confides in Sonia about her fears.

And it seems Bex was right to be worried because after Dot gives him a touching gift and the pair share some amazing memories together, Doctor Legg sadly passes away… leaving behind him heartbroken friends and a legacy that will never end.

EastEnders airs Monday and Friday at 8pm and Tuesday and Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
