There looks to be heartbreak to come for Bethany Platt in Coronation Street when she falls for a new man.
The young nail technician has been groomed and abused, raped and mistreated over the years and her ill-fated relationship with Ryan Connor ended with him moving on with Alya Nazir.
So it’s about time she found a good man, and she has from the looks of Corrie’s Saturday sneak peeks. But unfortunately for her, he is gay – so there’s possibly more heartbreak to come.
In the picture posted to Corrie’s social media profiles, Bethany is seen smiling adoringly at footballer James Bailey.
However, viewers know that James has been hiding a secret from his family, friends and sports team – that he’s gay.

But the soap has been keen to ensure that it won’t be a tortured coming-out story for him.
Corrie boss Iain Macleod said earlier this year, according to Metro: “We’re quite keen that James knows who he is but has some apprehensiveness about telling his parents, and some apprehensiveness about his teammates finding out.
“When we meet the character he’s on the cusp of bigger things football wise, and is also aware that despite the process that we’ve made as a society, in lots of areas, homophobia on the terraces is fairly rampant.”
Iain added: “He’s scared about the reaction. But not because he’s worried that his family will reject him.
“It’s more about the football. It’s a big moment for anybody to sit your family down.
“We wanted to make this a very modern coming out story rather than the ones we’ve seen.”

Could Bethany be the one to help him come out to his family – or will she be too brokenhearted to cope?
Actress Lucy Fallon announced earlier this year that she will be leaving the soap, so could her heartbreak see her flee Weatherfield for a new life elsewhere?
