Coronation Street’s Lucy Fallon received online abuse after Bethany and Daniel kiss

Married Daniel and Bethany shared a kiss

Lucy Fallon received online abuse after her Coronation Street character Bethany Platt’s kiss with Daniel Osbourne.

The Corrie star has been the target of some “nasty comments” after Bethany shared a recent smooch with Daniel while his wife Sinead Tinker, who passed away on Friday’s episodes (October 25 2019), was battling cervical cancer.

But Lucy doesn’t understand why people cannot differentiate between her and her character.

She said: “People are not very happy with me.

“It’s been really hard. It’s one of those stories that’s so important and so many people have been affected by it.

“Everyone who watched it will be able to relate to it in a kind of way. And there have been a few nasty comments on my social media.

“But do you know what I find funny? People sometimes can’t differentiate between me as a person and the character I play. It’s just like, ‘You are the worst person in the world.'”

Some Corrie viewers were outraged with the Daniel and Bethany sub-plot, but Lucy believes it was “important” to show just how much Daniel was “suffering”.

She added to The Sun Online: “I feel like it was important for Corrie to show that Daniel was suffering so much, and he was losing his mind, that the kiss was just a moment where he wanted comfort.

“It wasn’t like he was ‘cheating’ on his wife. I don’t see it like that. And Bethany is obviously guilt-stricken.”

Lucy is to depart the cobbles next year, and recently admitted she worries she might not work again when she leaves Weatherfield.

She exclusively told BANG Showbiz: “It is really scary because obviously I don’t know what’s going to happen, I might never work again but I’m not putting too much pressure on myself, I’ll see what happens.”

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
