Coronation Street’s Katie McGlynn wore Sinead’s baby bump for death scenes

Sineads liver would have been swollen

It’s set to be a tragic week on Coronation Street as Sinead Osbourne loses her battle with cervical cancer.

Actress Katie McGlynn has now revealed on Loose Women that she was so determined to get every aspect of her death right that she even wore Sinead’s prosthetic baby bump again.

She told panellists Andrea McLean, Coleen Nolan, Saira Khan, and Jane Moore that she worked hard to ensure authenticity when playing the part.

“We had medical advisors on set, you’ll see this week, I don’t know if you’ll notice, but I’ve actually got a bump on like a pregnancy bump, because they said because of the cancer that Sinead has particularly got, all her liver would be swollen.

“So I thought: ‘Right, I want that as well because it’ll help me play it.

“I’ve done as much research as I could, I want it to be as real as possible.”

As well as telling how “overwhelmed” she’s been by the public response to the storyline, the actress also spoke about how she won’t be able to watch Sinead’s final scenes again having already seen them once.

“I watched at the press screening last Monday of her final scenes and I can’t watch it again,” she said after watching a clip the show played.

“Once we were filming it you couldn’t get out of it, you immerse yourself in the part so much…

“It felt so real and I thought the only way we could play the part was to tap our minds into it being real, all of it felt real to me.”

She explained how the storyline had had more of an affect on her emotionally and mentally than she realised it would.

“I underestimated the affect it had on my mental health.

I’ve done as much research as I could, I want it to be as real as possible.

“I’ve only just realised it walking away from it on Monday, but I was breathing part of Sinead and it’s bizarre.

“But I started doing a fitness thing to safeguard myself, and that’s really helping me mentally.

“I sound silly saying it, but I believe Sinead is real.

“I’ve played her for six-and-a-half years, me and Corrie created this character, I feel like she’s my friend.

“So watching her die was just awful. But it’s raising awareness, and I just hope we are doing that.”

Katie’s final scenes as Sinead will air on Friday as she passes away in husband Daniel’s arms.

Although her final week is not without trauma when she discovers Daniel has kissed Bethany Platt.

Sinead was first diagnosed with cervical cancer in October last year, but in July things were looking positive as it showed no signs of spreading.

However last month she found a lump and received the devastating news the cancer had returned and spread to her lymph nodes and liver, leaving her with only weeks to live.
