Coronation Street fans sickened by Rana’s mum’s reaction to her death

Telling Kate it was all her fault was a step too far

In a special Sunday evening double bill of Corrie last night, Rana Habeeb’s grieving family were at loggerheads over how they should lay her to rest.

After Rana’s untimely demise in the factory roof collapse on Friday March 22, her fiance Kate Connor and brother Imran Habeeb were beside themselves with pain.

And when they went to lay flowers at Rana’s memorial outside the remains of the factory, Imran couldn’t cope.

So it wasn’t ideal timing for Rana and Imran’s mum to arrive. She asked Imran to tell her where her daughter’s body was and insisted she loved her so much.

But furious Imran spat back: “No, you loved her when she told the lie, when she played the dutiful daughter.”

As Kate interjected and said Rana would hate them fighting and they needed to stick together and talk, Imran was having none of it and told him mum to “save her tears, it’s too late.”

Saira later went to visit Kate, who told her she and Kate said their vows before Rana died.

“I know you still don’t approve of me, but we’re both in the same boat now, you and me, we both loved Rana and now we’ve both lost her,” Kate calmly said.

But Saira wasn’t having any of it: “Please don’t compare the love I have for her, a mother’s love, with what you had,” she said.

Kate didn’t let the harsh words stop her, she carried on explaining they’d talked about postponing the wedding until Saira came round and gave her approval.

“I wish you had postponed then none of this would have happened,” Saira hit back.

Kate broke down in her dad’s arms as Saira hurriedly apologised then left.

She later turned up at Imran’s place and demanded he tell her where Rana’s body was, and stunned him by announcing she wanted to give her daughter a Muslim burial.

Letting her have it with both barrels, Imran shouted: “Why would you celebrate her life now, you hated who she was? You are still trying to inflict your beliefs on her.”

Later when Kate went to Imran’s to speak about the funeral, Rana’s mother tried to stop her from coming in, but Imran went against his mother’s wishes.

“If you don’t want to see her, leave. I am warning you, if you start on her, I will throw you out myself.”

He then let Kate in and welcomed her warmly: “Here she is the love of Rana’s life, the person who knew my sister better than anyone.”

But Kate then left him stunned when she agreed with Saira that Rana still had her faith and should be given a Muslim burial.

Fans were disgusted with Saira’s attitude and blasted her words blaming Kate for Rana’s death.

But does the fact Saira and Kate have agreed on the type of funeral to give Rana mean they can put their differences aside and send Rana off with love?

Coronation Street continues Wednesday and Friday at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
