Britain will endure snow and ice in upcoming days, according to reports – even though the clocks went forward for British Summer Time over the weekend.
Arctic air is forecast to sweep into the UK from Iceland by the Met Office, causing temperatures to hover around the 7C mark until the weekend.
But a 700-mile ‘polar flume’ could cause conditions to slump below freezing – possibly as low as -5C.
Gales are also predicted to worsen in the middle of the week with Scotland bearing the brunt of the unsettled weather. It is thought winds could reach up to 60mph.

However, the ‘hottest spring ever’ could kick in shortly after that as forecasters reckon the second half of April is expected to see “rather warm” temperatures.
Met Office forecaster Alex Burkill is quoted as saying to the Sun’s website: “British Summer Time is starting – but no-one told the weather.
“Markedly lower temperatures than recently will be seen from Mother’s Day, with cold air from Iceland and Greenland.
“Snow and sleet are expected on higher ground in Scotland from Monday.”

Nonetheless, it is believed the next three months will see above-average temperatures for the time of year.
And bookies are said to have already slashed odds on 2019 seeing the hottest spring ever.
Today is expected to see a few showers in western England and Wales but it will be fine fine elsewhere, the BBC reports.
And tonight could have rain in the north west moving slowly in a south-easterly direction. A few sharp showers are forecast for the south east of England.
