Britain to be bashed by bout of snow before spring beds in

It'll be mostly dry until Saturday

The UK could be in for more snow and wintry showers before the hot spring weather gets into full swing.

It’s been somewhat dry and mild for most of the country in the last week but, according to new weather maps, Saturday could see rain in the north become wintry as temperatures drop in the higher areas.

And early next week, an Atlantic weather front could bring thunderstorms, rainfall and wintry gales to some regions.

Following the chilly spell, warm air blowing in from Africa is expected to raise temperatures as high as 22C.

Tuesday (March 26th) saw a cold start with near-freezing temperatures overnight but many places are forecast to remain dry, according to the Met Office, which has also forecast sunny spells that could bring temperatures to the mid teens.

Clouds will roll in Tuesday evening, bringing patches of rain to northern hills and northwest Scotland.

In the south, some frost and fog is expected overnight.

Most of Britain will be dry and warm on Wednesday, with the east and southwest of the country likely to get the best sunshine, although northwest Scotland will remain cloudy and drizzly.

Temperatures will rise during a mostly cloudy Thursday and Friday.

But on Saturday, weather maps point to a risk of wintry showers or snow across the high areas of northern Scotland

According to The Mirror, Met Office meteorologist Sarah Kent said: “It looks as though it will gradually become more changeable through the early part of next week and there will be showers in the north and some of these could be heavy with thunder and hail and some strong winds.”

A Met Office statement read: “After a fine and dry start on Saturday, especially across the south, cloud and outbreaks of rain across central parts will move erratically southeastwards, becoming light and patchy as it does so.

“Further north, there’ll be a mixture of sunny spells and blustery showers, these possibly turning wintry over the hills.

The Met Office also said there will “probably be” a lot of dry, sunny weather on Sunday following a “chilly” start for most parts of the country.

But into next week, it said the weather will become “gradually more changeable”, with a potential band of rain “continuing to move southeast” ahead of “frontal systems” coming in from the Atlantic.

It follows strong winds and heavy rain earlier this month as Storm Hannah battered many parts of England and Wales, leading to a swathe of flood warnings.
