Piers Morgan reveals truth behind hospital pic after health scare

He returned to GMB after his hospital stint

Piers Morgan never misses an opportunity to tweet even posting on social media while presenting Good Morning Britain.

But the presenter has insisted that he had no idea he had tweeted from his hospital bed last week because he was so doped up on sedatives at the time.

The Good Morning Britain presenter looked in good health as he hosted Monday morning’s show alongside co-host Susanna Reid after being hospitalised for stomach gastritis and duodenitis.

He explained he went in for a minor procedure that involved having a tube put down his throat.

He said: “They give you the choice, ‘Do you want to just have a bit of spray and go for it with this thing jammed down your throat… or do you want a sedative?’

“You’re supposed to be awake while it’s happening, so you’re sort of aware.

“Next thing I know I wake up in recovery. It’s all over, done, didn’t remember a thing. I had my phone on me and I’m basically in that picture, I’m still half sedated, just come round, but my phone was near me and they all left the room to let me have my rest.

“So I got the phone. I had no idea I’d done this and posted the picture.”

He continued: “I then had a little chat with the consultant of which I have no memory at all, went on for a 10 minute chat.

“I was then allowed home in a cab, got home, sleep for two or three hours, wake up and there’s like a thousand messages from all around the world [going] ‘Are you alive? What’s going on’. I thought, literally, ‘What have I done?’”

While Charlotte Hawkins told him off for grabbing his phone, he added: “I’d like to apologise to anyone who’s offended by the fact that I’m not going to die, or just upset and a little disappointed.

“Because Twitter was a little bit disappointed, weren’t you Twitter.”

Piers also hit back at those who claimed his illness was faked. He said: “All they do is stick a tube down your throat, you don’t need to take your clothes off!

“You don’t even have to wear a gown particularly but they do that in case you start gagging and refluxing and puking everywhere.”
