Coronation Street stars “freaked out” after ghostly encounter on set

An unexplained presence whispered into their mics

We’re used to hearing about affairs, unwanted pregnancies, nosy neighbours and even murders in Coronation Street – but now we’re told the truth is even stranger than fiction.

Forget the dramatic plots dreamt up by talented scriptwriters, because the cast and crew of the ITV soap had a terrifying real life encounter on set that left them “freaked” and “spooked” out.

In an interview about the dramatic showdown between his character Clayton Hibbs and his on-screen mum Shona Ramsey, actor Callum Harrison has revealed they experienced some scary occurrences while filming the scenes.

He told The Sun that while filming the upcoming hostage scenes in a dilapidated and abandoned mansion, he and his co-star Julia Goulding heard terrifying whispering around them.

He said: “It’s a really spooky place, the place where we filmed it was on Most Haunted.

“We were doing a take and one of the assistant directors said can we stop talking in the back.

“Everyone was looking at each other like there’s nobody talking.

“But there was whispering on the mic and no-one was there.”

The actor revealed that the cast and crew spent several days filming in the creepy building, and the location added to the unease of the plot line – in which Clayton takes his mum hostage and the showdown ends with both of them being rushed to hospital covered in blood.

The actor continued: “That was freaky, honestly that happened, no word of a lie. We really were like ‘Jesus’.”

“The place is a mess honestly, it stinks, the place is horrible. When we were filming the scenes, the scenery really helped because it felt like I’d genuinely took her away and kidnapped her, do you know what I mean?

“It was a disgusting place, but it was really good like, it was amazing to do it.”

The scenes will air next week and follow Clayton’s desperate attempts to avoid returning to jail to serve the rest of his sentence for murdering David’s wife Kylie.

He escaped from police custody when he was allowed out for the funeral of his dad.

But whether Clayton or Shona survive the ordeal remains to be seen.

Will David have to watch another loved one die at the hands at Clayton?
