Documentary to explore the “trials and tribulations” of Ant McPartlin ahead of BGT return

Singer and TV star Peter Andre recently filmed a segment for the programme

A documentary is in the works about the “trials and tribulations” facing Ant McPartlin.

The Britain’s Got Talent host took most of last year off work to focus on his sobriety after getting arrested for drink-driving, and now his friend Peter Andre has revealed he’s taken part in a programme that focuses on the star and the pressures of fame.

Peter wrote in his new! magazine column: “[Last week] I filmed a segment for a new documentary about Ant and Dec.

“I can’t give too much away because I don’t know what will make the final cut, but it’s basically about the pressures of the industry and the trials and tribulations facing Ant following his drink driving arrest and rehab stint.”

Last year, Peter filmed an appearance for another film about Ant and his presenting partner, Declan Donnelly, which was put together by Channel 5 to mark the pair’s 30th year in showbiz.

The Mysterious Girl singer said at the time: “Last week I filmed a TV segment for Ant and Dec’s 30th anniversary, which was good fun!

“I’m unsure when it will air, but it was great to take a trip down memory lane and remember the great things I’ve been involved in with the boys over the years.

“Everything from living above them 22 years ago, when they were PJ and Duncan, to appearing in various shows with them.”

However, the proposed documentary was never broadcast.

Meanwhile, it was revealed last month that work on a programme exploring Ant and Dec’s heritage has resumed, after it was put on hold last year following the former Byker Grove actor’s personal difficulties.

ITV’s director of television Kevin Lygo said last month: “We had to stop filming as they hadn’t quite finished it, but I’ve seen the first part and it’s absolutely brilliant.

“They’ve got a bit of filming to do to finish it and it should go out late in the autumn – it will be a big thing.

“We test their DNA and they go back and find relatives they didn’t know about. The DNA profiling is so accurate and detailed

“I mean, it’s not Genghis Khan – there’s a village in Ireland where you have relatives just two generations back.

“Ant and Dec are brilliant together and they don’t know the story so it’s revealed as it happens. They go into a room with relatives they’ve never seen.”
