Carol Vorderman slams critics who called her ‘mutton dressed as lamb’

Looking sensational at almost 60!

After “distracting” her fans with her sensational curves last week, Carol Vorderman has revealed that she has suffered “ageism” for most of her life.

Carol even told how she was called “mutton dressed as lamb” when she was just 39 years old.

The 58-year-old former Countdown star also revealed that she is regularly attacked by critics on social media over her outfit choices.

However, defiant Carol revealed that the comments don’t affect her in the slightest.

Opening up to Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes on This Morning, Carol revealed that the comments “never” sting.

“I get it all the time and has my attitude changed whatsoever? No! And is it going to change? No!” she said.

“What is age appropriate? Surely it’s about the spirit of somebody,” she added.

Carol also revealed that Lorraine Kelly had taught her a trick when it comes to dealing with trolls.

She said: “I just mute. She said: ‘Don’t block, mute.’ And then they carry on doing their thing.”

Back in 2000, at the age of 39, Carol revealed she wore a short blue dress to the BAFTAs – and to say it caused a stir is an understatement.

Carol caused a stir at the 2000 BAFTAs where she was called “mutton dressed as lamb” at the age of 39

Carol revealed: “Twenty years ago I wore a blue dress to the BAFTAs which was above the knee, I was 39.”

She added: “That became a massive story, programmes were made about it. Not about the dress, it became about should a woman aged 39 wear a dress above the knee?”

She added: “I was called mutton dressed as lamb. Would you call a 39 year old today mutton dressed as lamb because she wore a dress above the knee? Of course you wouldn’t! That’s just nonsense.”

Of life in her fifties, Carol said that she feels “fantastic”. She added it has been her “best decade”.

“I feel fantastic. Obviously tragedy happens, but that’s life. But I feel freer than ever before,” she revealed.

As she approached 60, Carol is seen by many as an inspiration, but she says that isn’t why she wants to look as good as she can.

“You don’t do it so that you can be an inspiration. That’s not the motivation behind it. I do it because you know I’ve always liked to be healthy.”

Fans were quick to commend Carol on her interview. One admitted: “Beautiful lady who always looks stunning every day.”
