Ken Barlow’s parenting woes to disrupt Coronation Street

It's not looking good for him

| Updated:

He’s had his fair share of drama in all his years on Coronation Street, and that doesn’t look set to change for Ken Barlow.

The character has been on the show since it began in 1960 and it’s true to say he’s made plenty of mistakes.

The biggest of those are arguably in his abilities as a father, and now that failure looks set to come back and throw his world into chaos.

With all his family now living in town – sons Peter and Daniel, stepdaughter Tracy, grandsons Adam and Simon, and grandaughter Amy, Ken’s about to find out the past doesn’t always stay buried.

Speaking to Soaplife, show boss Kate Oates has said:

“Ken’s been an absolutely rubbish father and grandfather.

“Ironically, he’s been the best parent to Tracy and she’s not even his.

“Anyway, Ken’s increasingly ill-judged attempts at parenting and grandparenting will come back to bite him this spring.”

So what’s going to happen?

We’ve recently seen the ageing Barlow burn grandson Adam’s drug money – landing Adam, and the family, in a whole heap of trouble with dealer Ronan.

Could Ken’s actions have far-reaching consequences that affect the whole clan?

Or is it to do with his son Daniel Osbourne?

The youngster is Ken’s protégé, despite the fact Ken wasn’t around when he was growing up.

Daniel was also abandoned by his mother Denise at age 15, so he’s had no parental figure in his life at all.

Now, as Ken pushes him towards academic greatness, will he push him too far?

With Daniel’s girlfriend, Sinead Tinker, pregnant with Daniel’s child, the intellectual lad is desperate to provide the stable home he never had for his own child.

Kate explained: “Daniel wants to create the family he’s missed out on.

“But, then again, he’s set on going to Oxford University to fulfil his academic potential.

“Sinead wants the baby, but it’s far from being that simple for the pair.”

Is that because Ken gets involved and causes problems?

With troublemaker Tracy and cheater Peter also living under his roof, Ken’s got no hope of a quiet few months.

But how much of the strain does he bring on himself? And is he in line for another life-threatening stroke?
