Shirley Ballas warns Strictly viewers to ‘get tissues ready’ as she teases same-sex dance this weekend

She's been blown away by what she's seen in rehearsals

Shirley Ballas has teased a same-sex Strictly Come Dancing dance routine will be happening this weekend.

Head judge Shirley, 59, revealed the special TV moment is being rehearsed in advance of Saturday’s show – and predicted it will have viewers in floods of tear.

Speaking to Digital Spy at the Pride of Britain Awards, she also said that it will be popular pros Johannes Radebe and Graziano Di Prima taking to the dance floor for the breakthrough dance.

Shirley is reported to have said: “All I can say is have your tissues ready. It’s the most magnificent thing I have witnessed in rehearsals.”

She explained: “Johannes brings out such a wonderful joy of dancing, and him and Graziano just envelope the whole experience.

“It warms your heart for sure. It is for sure something to look forward to.”

It is for sure something to look forward to.

Ahead of the current series, Motsi Mabuse suggested introducing same-sex dancing couples could be a ratings winner for the BBC One dance show.

And Kevin Clifton has also indicated he would have “no problem” dancing with a man if asked.

Last year’s series saw a group routine by the pros with dancers matched up in same-sex pairings for the first time.

It is believed judge Craig Revel Horwood pushed for the inclusive performance.

A Strictly spokesperson previously told reporters that show bosses are “open to the prospect of including same sex pairings between celebrities and professional dancers”.

And earlier this year the BBC noted that same-sex couples could be paired up in the future.

“Strictly Come Dancing is an inclusive show and we are proud to have featured same-sex dancing amongst the professional dancers in group numbers in previous series,” a spokesperson said.

“We are completely open to the prospect of including same-sex pairings between our celebrities and professional dancers in the future, should the opportunity arise.”
