James Corden shares behind the scenes glimpse of Gavin and Stacey rehearsals

What's occurring?

Gavin and Stacey fans have gone wild after James Corden gave a glimpse of rehearsals for the show’s Christmas special.

The 40-year-old, who co-writes the show with Ruth Jones, posted a black and white photo of the cast as they sat around a table and ran through their scripts.

James, who plays Smithy in the comedy, shared his excitement about the gang being back together.

“Rehearsals!” he captioned his Twitter picture.

The snap showed Ruth, who plays Nessa, smiling with her co-stars as rehearsals got underway.

Mathew Horne (Gavin) and Joanna Page (Stacey) were sat next to each other in the pic.

They were also joined by Larry Lamb and Alison Steadman (Gavin’s parents Pam and Michael) and Melanie Walters (Stacey’s mum Gwen).

Comedian Rob Brydon, who plays Stacey’s uncle Bryn, may have also been in attendance but he wasn’t in view. However, Robert Wilfort was captured in the shot, meaning Stacey’s brother Jason will be back.

“This photo excites me more than is strictly necessary😂,” commented one fan.

Another added: “This makes me so happy.”

And some showed their enthusiasm by posting memes of character Pam’s catchphrase: “Oh my Christ!”

Co-creators James and Ruth announced the exciting news of the one-off special last month, nine years after the series ended.

They said in a statement: “Over the last ten years we’ve talked a lot about Gavin and Stacey – where they might be today and what their lives might look like.

“And so in secret we took the plunge and wrote this one-hour special. We’ve loved revisiting Barry and Essex again and bringing the characters back together has been a joy.

“We’re so excited to get the chance to work with our fabulous cast and crew once more and to give fans of the show a festive treat this Christmas. Thank you BBC for helping to make this happen.”
