Viewers of Good Morning Britain were stunned by a guest’s incredible 20-stone weight loss.

Darren ‘Dibsy’ McClintock appeared on the show alongside his personal trainer Mike Hind to discuss how he went from 40 stone to 20 stone in just a year.

Mike said he put posters in Dibsy’s local takeaways asking the staff to “not serve” him in their restaurants to help him shift the pounds.

Mike explained: “Each year I take one person for free to change their life. I’d never met him before and I’ll be honest, I’d never seen a human being walk in as big as I did that day.

“It’s a difficult situation because Dibsy had [a] heart condition. His mum broke down in tears and said, ‘Please, I don’t want to bury my son.’ I’ve got three kids, I know how that feels.

“It was life and death.”

When asked by host Piers Morgan how he feels about the term “fat-shaming”, Mike said: “I was bullied as a kid. I hate bullies and I think fat-shaming is a form of bullying.”

Mike revealed Dibsy was consuming 11,000 calories per day, which would feed a family of six.

Dibsy said: “I was just eating all the wrong stuff. I’d get up in the morning and I would eat two or three sausage sandwiches with a pint of milk or juice.

“Within an hour, I would eating a sandwich again. Literally every two hours, I would be eating the wrong things. The local takeaways, I would be going there easily four or five times a week.”

Speaking about Mike’s poster telling takeaway staff to not serve Dibsy, Piers said: “I would argue that, whichever way you dress this up, that is a form of fat-shaming.

“You’re basically saying, ‘look at this fat guy, don’t serve him fat food.’ I’ve had times in my life where I’ve put on a bit of weight and it’s not a nice feeling.

“You want to lose it and you need someone to look you in the eye and say, ‘you’re looking a bit out of shape,’ everyone needs that a bit.”

When asked if he knew Mike was going to put the posters up, Dibsy said: “Yeah we discussed [it] all the way through. The harsh reality is I needed to know that.

“I don’t think I was fat-shamed. I describe it as being supported. I describe fat-shaming as being called fat. If I would have walked into [Mike’s] office and he said to me, ‘Dibsy, you’re fat’ I would have walked back out and just comfort ate.”

Dibsy said he’s having an operation to remove his excess skin and is hoping to then drop down to 15 or 16 stone.

Viewers were stunned by Dibsy’s dramatic transformation and shared their thoughts on Twitter.

One person said: “I think Dibsy is amazing. He’s proof that with the right diet and exercise you can turn your life around.”

A third added: “@GMB well done #Dibsy for losing all that weight. Literally a new man!! Just goes to show you can do it if you put in the work & eat the right things.

“Mike Hind is a legend taking him on for free & basically giving him a new lease of life. Hope the surgery goes well. All the best.”
