David Thewlis career – what is he famous for?
David Thewlis is famous for being an actor, although he has also dabbled in directing and screenwriting.
He is also an author of two novels, The Late Hector Kipling and Shooting Martha.
He found fame in the film Naked in 1993, a role which won him the coveted Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actor.
Harry Potter fans will know him best as Remus Lupin in the film franchise.
Recently, he played Sir Patrick Morgan – aka Ares – in the 2017 film Wonder Woman, too.
David is also known for his film appearances in Total Eclipse, James and the Giant Peach, Dragonheart, Seven Years in Tibet , The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and War Horse.
Upcoming roles include playing John Dee in The Sandman, as well as appearances in the second series of Enola Holmes, and Avatar 3.
On TV, David Thewlis has portrayed Cyrus Crabb in the ABC miniseries Dinotopia and VM Varga in the third series of Fargo.
He’s also appeared in Barkskins, The Feed, and Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit.
At the moment, he is playing double murderer Christopher Edwards in Sky Atlantic’s Landscapers, based on a chilling true story.

David Thewlis – real name David Wheeler – was born on March 20 1963.
He is currently 59 years of age.
He hails from Blackpool, Lancashire.

Why did David Thewlis and Anna Friel split?
David Thewlis has been married twice, but many of us know David best for dating Anna Friel.
The pair began dating in 2001 after meeting on a flight to Cannes.
However, the couple eventually split nearly nine years later in 2010, but remain friends.
Marcella star Anna has said that their relationship broke down because they “became friends” and were spending too much time apart.
She said: “Things didn’t break down because there was no love there.
“In reality, it was just because we’d become friends, or we were spending too much time apart, and that’s actors for you – that’s our industry.”
Do David Thewlis and Anna Friel have a child?
David Thewlis and Anna Friel have a daughter together called Gracie.
Gracie turned 16 in July 2021.
Anna and David share custody of their daughter.
In 2016, Anna bought a house across the road from the Harry Potter star for the sake of their then 10-year-old daughter.
She told the Daily Mirror at the time: “He’s a great dad and lives just across the road.
“We’re the best of friends. It’s a bit unconventional, but we get on beautifully.”
Is David Thewlis married?
David has been married twice.
First of all, he married Welsh actress Sara Sugarman in 1992, but they divorced two years later in 1994.
He then married Hermine Poitou in 2016, with whom he is still married.
She’s a French designer who has worked in the casting department of films such as Russian Dolls and A Child’s Secret.
