Emmerdale fans furious as tonight’s episode is cancelled for football

Sport should be on sport's channels

Soap fans have been left raging as they’re forced to wait until Wednesday to see the next episode of Emmerdale as tonight’s outing is cancelled.

Due to a scheduling conflict caused by ITV showing a Euro 2020 qualifier, Tuesday’s episode of Emmerdale (September 10) has been moved.

In fact, there will only be five outings to the Dales this week instead of the usual six or seven.

And it’s fair to say fans are not impressed.

Writing on ED!’s Facebook page one said: “NOT AGAIN! Football and other sports should be on a designated channel, our soaps and favourite programmes should NOT be shunted or cancelled because of sport.

“There are millions of people for whom sport holds no interest, the elderly and the lonely (who often rely on TV as a ‘companion’).”

Another added: “I am so fed up with football disrupting the normal everyday TV programmes.

“The idiots that decide upon this should realise that not everyone of us is a sport or football fan (boring).”

A further user raged: “Just because of football, try to understand that for a lot of elderly people, and chronically ill people TV is the only company, and can’t afford sky etc, shame on TV channels, who only have BIG PAY AND PENSIONS time to wake up, sick of sport on TV anyway, give it a separate channel!!!! Gggrrrrrr.”

“Fgs!!! Everything stops for bloody football. Why can’t it be shown on one of the other ITV channels!!!” said a fourth.

It didn’t stop there as someone else said: “Bloody joke. No Emmerdale tonight is stupid over football yet again. Put the [Bleep] on another channel not everyone likes football you know.”

Fans on Twitter didn’t feel any differently either!

As well as Emmerdale, Coronation Street and EastEnders have also been forced to change times this week due to the upcoming European Championship qualifiers.

We usually visit the cobbles every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.

While Monday and Wednesday’s episodes remain in the same slots, this Friday, September 13, we will be heading to Weatherfield for an hour from 7.30pm.

Although none of the usual visits to EastEnders need to be moved for football, the soap has decided to change their regular slots to avoid clashes with the ITV soaps.

On Friday, September 13, Easties fans can catch the usual 8pm episode at the later time of 8.30pm so it avoids going up against extended Corrie – and viewers of both shows don’t have to choose.
