EastEnders boss Kate Oates reveals return of three iconic characters

Kate's about to shake things up

New EastEnders boss Kate Oates has revealed that she is planning to bring back some familiar faces as part of her new tenure at the soap.

The former Coronation Street boss has only been at the EastEnders helm for a matter of weeks, but already everyone is eager to see what changes she will be making to the show as part of her time there.

As always when a new producer starts at a soap there have been rumours that Kate will be making a dramatic cast cull, but she has thankfully been quick to reassure fans that the current cast’s jobs are safe.

But while no one is leaving the show in the foreseeable future, old faces are set to be making a dramatic comeback to Albert Square.

Kate recently told Daily Star on Sunday that she will be making a cast shake up of a different kind…

“I’ve only been there a few weeks, but we’re already making our plans.

“We’re going to be bringing people back. So that’s exciting. I haven’t made the calls yet, but there will definitely be two, possible three old faces returning.

But sadly we won’t be seeing the familiar faces back on our screens until after Christmas…

Kate added: “You’ll probably see them in the first quarter of the new year.”

While Kate obviously remained tight-lipped about who might be making their dramatic comeback to Walford, there has been some speculation about who it could be.

Characters like Grant Mitchell, Patsy Palmer, Shabnam Masood, and Sid Owen have been mentioned in passing, while current EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick, who plays Jay Brown, has hinted who he would like to see back on set.

The actor told Digital Spy recently that he’d love to see his friend Harry Reid, who played Ben Mitchell, make a return…

“Of course I would like to see Ben back. Harry has been very busy doing his play, but who knows? Ben left in a way that was kind of unexplained. I suppose he’s got to come back at some point.”

EastEnders boss Kate also revealed recently there is a storyline coming up in the soap that has left even her nervous.

She told The Sun Online: “There’s something that I’m thinking about that the audience could say is an issue lead storyline.

“I think anything important should be approached with a certain degree of nerves – if you’re saying anything important then you should care about it.”
