ITV soap Coronation Street has revealed horse actor, Sammy, was rescued from a slaughter house.

In Monday night’s episode (May 27) Sammy first appeared as Heracles.

Last week, Sally Metcalfe had decided to buy a horse along with Yasmeen Nazir, Jenny Connor and Sinead Tinker, forming a syndicate.

However, when they were in the pub after viewing the horse, the seller suddenly had to leave. As they went outside, they discovered they had been scammed as the seller had left a completely different horse to the one they just looked at.

Things only got worse after Sally discovered the seller had also lied about him having put six months pay down at the stables. In fact, he was six months behind on payments.

Sally’s husband Tim went down the the stables to give them a piece of his mind but he ended up returning with Heracles after they wanted him to pay the previous owner’s debts.

Dylan Jones, who took over the family run business 20 years ago, told North Wales Live about Sammy’s background.

“I’d originally spotted another foul, a bay (now named Indiana Jones) who had been rescued from a Portuguese slaughter house by a horse charity around five years ago.

“I showed interest in bringing him over and thankfully managed to raise enough money to get him out of the slaughter house and into a safe-house holding area.

“While the bay was at the slaughter house, he had a roommate there – that was Sammy.”

Dylan went on to rescue both Sammy and Indiana.

Dolbadarn Film Horses have been used in many other TV shows and films including Dr Who, Sherlock Holmes, War Horse, Game of Thrones, Snow White and The Huntsman.

This week Coronation Street is on Monday-Friday at 9pm.
