UK weather: Hurricane Humberto forecast to hit Britain next week

Get ready for the end of the summer

The extended British summer will come to an inclement end over the next few days as Hurricane Humberto arrives in the UK.

Heavy rain and strong winds are expected to hit the country as the final traces of the tropical storm that battered Bermuda moves across the Atlantic.

According to the Met Office, Humberto’s appearance on this side of the ocean will mark the changing of the seasons – with Saturday expected to be the last day of the September heatwave.

It is believed temperatures will hit 25C this weekend before dropping on Sunday.

Conditions will likely continue to creep down, falling to 19C on Monday – although some sunshine is expected ahead of the downpours.

Forecaster Simon Partridge is reported to have told the Mirror’s website: “The remnants of Hurricane Humberto are expected to arrive across the UK on late Monday.

“It will bring some outbreaks of rain and some stronger winds. There’s potential for some strong winds and maybe a few gales around western coasts.

“Next week will feel more autumnal than this week and will be a more unsettled affair.”

Over 28,000 Bermudan homes and businesses were affected by power cuts on Wednesday, according to electricity company Belco.

The ferocity of Humberto ensured flights were cancelled and residents in the Bermudan capital of Hamilton boarded up windows and entrances.

Warnings about the possibility of coastal flooding due to waves whipped up Humberto have also been issued.

The hurricane passed over Bermuda overnight and is expected to cross the ocean in the next few days.
