Spice Girls tour off to a ‘horrific’ start as fans left sobbing

It was more zig-a-zig-aragh for the Croke Park crowd

The Spice Girls played the first of their sold-out reunion shows last night and it’s fair to say the tour didn’t get off to the best of starts.

Baby, Sporty, Scary and Ginger kicked off their Spice World summer tour at Croke Park in Dublin, with “loads of people” leaving early because the show was beset by sound problems.

Although the girls sang all of their hits – including Spice Up Your Life, Holler, Who Do You Think You Are?, Viva Forever and Mama – concert-goers took to Twitter in their droves to call the experience “horrific”.

Even Geri Horner wearing an “age-appropriate” version of her famous Union Jack dress couldn’t raise spirits.

One said: “There’s something wrong when the crowd at Spice Girls concert are all sitting down because no one has a clue what song is on because the sound really is THAT bad.”

One even revealed the show was more zig-a-zig-aragh than anything else.

“Cannot hear anything,” they said. “I want to bawl [crying emojis].”

After paying “through the nose” for a ticket, the general consensus was that the technical issues were simply “not good enough”, with fans calling on the sound guys to “sort it out”.

“Was absolutely buzzing to see you lot,” one fan said, “but its very disappointing cos the sound is really bad [sic]!”

They added: “We cant hear a thing sitting up the top row, up the back, all we’re getting is mumble, and for €110 a ticket, not good [sic]!”

Concert-goers reported that they couldn’t even hear the girls chat between songs.

“The sound is horrific. Even now when the girls are just talking you can’t hear them properly,” one fan revealed.

However, a source told The Mirror that the show didn’t suffer any “technical problems during the gig”. Instead, they insisted: “Any sound issues fans might have experienced were simply down to it being a large venue.”

The Spice Girls reunion tour has been grabbing headlines pretty much since the day it was announced, with Posh Spice Victoria Beckham first revealing that she wouldn’t be joining the girls on the road.

As Ent Daily reported, Mel B then caused friction as she claimed that she and Geri had an affair during the early days of the band.

While the Scary Spice star was also hit by an eye infection last week, which Ent Daily reported left the patch-wearing singer fearing she’d go blind.

The group play Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on Monday, before heading to Manchester, Coventry, Sunderland, Edinburgh and Bristol, before three sold-out nights at London’s Wembley Stadium.
