Royal Wedding: BBC subtitles make rude blunder about Princess Eugenie

Viewers had a good chuckle about this!

| Updated:

Viewers were left howling on Friday when the BBC News subtitles made a rather unfortunate error about Princess Eugenie.

The 28-year-old royal had just arrived at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle to marry Jack Brooksbank when the subtitles got decidedly mixed up between the words “dress” and “breasts”.

Yes. Really!

While the speaker had been praising Eugenie’s “beautiful dress”, the subtitles that appeared on screen changed that to “what a beautiful breasts”. Oops!

Naturally, it didn’t go unnoticed by eagle-eyed viewers who took to Twitter to point out the error.

BBC chose not to broadcast the ceremony in full, so royal fans had to tune into an extended version of ITV’s This Morning, hosted by Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, to watch the full event.

Eugenie arrived with her dad, Prince Andrew, The Duke of York, to huge cheers from the waiting crowds outside St. George’s Chapel.

Eugenie’s wedding dress was designed by Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos and featured long sleeves with a flowing train, folded shoulders, and a low back.

She specifically requested the low back as she wanted to show the scar on her spine from surgery to correct scoliosis at the age of 12.

She had told ITV’s This Morning in an earlier interview: “I had an operation when I was 12 on my back, and you’ll see on Friday [at the wedding], but it’s a lovely way to honour the people who looked after me and a way of standing up for young people who also go through this.

“I think you can change the way beauty is, and you can show people your scars and I think it’s really special to stand up for that.”

The royal chose not to wear a veil, accessorising instead with the Greville Emerald tiara which she borrowed from her grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

She also wore earrings that were a wedding gift from Jack.

Their bridal party included Princess Charlotte, three, and Prince George, five, and Robbie and Ayda Williams’ six-year-old daughter Theodora, nicknamed Teddy.

Eugenie’s sister, Princess Beatrice, served as maid of honour, while Jack’s brother Thomas was best man.
