Outnumbered’s Claire Skinner opens up about “surprise” romance with co-star Hugh Dennis

Seems like a sitcom update might not be impossible, either

| Updated:

Sitcom star Claire Skinner has broken her silence on her relationship with Outnumbered co-star Hugh Dennis.

It was reported last summer that actress Claire had been quietly dating Hugh – who played her on screen husband – for about a year.

And now the 54-year-old Sue Brockman star has described her romance with Mock the Week regular Hugh, 57, as a ‘lovely surprise’.

Appearing on Lorraine, Claire confirmed she and Hugh are together when the host brought up their relationship.

“It’s a lovely little life surprise isn’t it?” Claire commented.

“It’s a lovely thing.”

Hugh remarked on their relationship in July of 2018: “I am very, very happy. We are so very happy.”

A unidentified friend of the couple was reported to have told a tabloid last summer that Claire and Hugh began a relationship following the end of their marriages.

The pal said: “They were going through marriage breakdowns at very similar times, but it was quite a while after their separations that they got together last year.

“They’ve always been really friendly but they were living their own lives until they were both single.”

Earlier today Claire also admitted a TV return for the Brockman family was not off the table – although she hinted there could be a problem in trying to revive a show about a family with young kids.

“It would be lovely, wouldn’t it?” she wondered.

“But have you seen pictures of them lately? ‘Giant’ children!”

The child actors from the show recently enjoyed a mini-reunion – and surprised TV fans with how much they have changed.

Posing for a picture shared on Instagram, Ramona Marquez, 18, who played Karen in the series, stood in the middle of on-screen brothers Daniel Roche, 19, who portrayed Ben, and Tyger Drew-Honey, 23, who played oldest sibling Jake.
