Love Island’s Amber Davies issues statement on ‘dodgy’ NTAs photo

The reality star says she was "naïve" about the situation

Love Island’s Amber Davies says she is “devastated” by reports she posed near an unidentified ‘white powder’ on a night out.

The 20-year-old posted a note to Twitter on Wednesday night, saying: “I have never and would never take drugs. This is not who I am.”

It followed frenzied speculation on social media, when the reality star added a selfie to Instagram Stories, standing next to a table covered in bottles of champagne and beer, what looks like white powder, a bank card and a rolled up bank note.

The image was taken at a hotel after-party, following the National Television Awards.

Amber then deleted the picture – but it had already been screen-grabbed and shared online.

In her lengthy note, Amber wrote: “There have been a lot of stories around this afternoon and I just want to set the record straight.

“I was completely naïve to what was lying on the table in front of me. I don’t know for sure what it was, but I do know what it looks like, and I am devastated.”

The model – who won the last series of Love Island, alongside her now-ex, Kem Cetinay – added that she has never and would never take drugs, insisting: “That is not who I am.”

She went on: “I’m fully aware that my supporters look up to me and the last thing I want is for people to think this is the type of thing I’d do.

“I’m a normal girl with an amazing family and I would never let them down like that.”

She finished the post with a heart emoji.

Within hours, Amber had hundreds of replies and more than 3,500 likes.

Many offered support, writing: “Give her a break”, while another pointed out: “[It] wasn’t her dressing room.”

It was already an awkward night for the reality star, as she avoided her ex, Kem on the NTA red carpet.

She recently admitted on ITV’s Lorraine, that they had: “Unfinished business”, but Kem later told MailOnline there was no chance of a reunion.

He said: “If I’m brutally honest, I’m pretty happy where I am at the moment. I’m happy being single… and I’m really happy with how things are going.”

Tough week all round for Amber.
