Harry Redknapp under attack for ‘evicting vulnerable tenants to develop luxury flats’

They've reportedly written to the TV star to ask for help

He won fans on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! for his down-to-earth nature, but Harry Redknapp’s good-guy image may take a hit thanks to a new report.

Headlines claim the former football manager is being criticised for serving up eviction notices to 29 “vulnerable tenants” living in a hotel he owns in Bournemouth.

Belgravia Hotel was bought by the 71-year-old in 2016, and is currently rented by Wendy Hunt, who provides housing for destitute people.

She claims all tenants have received an eviction notice and have to be out by 6 May, so Harry can turn the building into luxury flats.

Wendy, 81, told The Mirror: “I’ve got 29 people here. All of them will be homeless. We did try to get Harry to give them something to help them, but that was turned down.

“A lot of them are vulnerable. They’ve been here years. I took them without deposits because they were on the streets, so now they won’t have money for a deposit somewhere new.

“Can’t he do something with the money he won on I’m a Celebrity? He got a lot for that, on top of the money he’s already got. My poor people have got nothing.”

Harry is said to have earned £500,000 from his stint on the ITV show, and was pictured at Christmas handing out food to the homeless, alongside his beloved wife Sandra.

He told the Mail Online in December: “What we will do Thursday night is take [jam roly polys] and give them to the homeless. Hopefully Sandra will be able to cook some as there is a place where they get a dinner on a Thursday night…

“So we will take it to those guys, I think they will enjoy that. I wish everybody good health over Christmas, your health is your wealth.”

A spokesperson for Harry’s company told The Mirror: “In August 2018 Mr and Mrs Hunt signed a consent order, and notice was served in February to vacate the property by May 6. All legal proceedings were dealt with by both representatives’ solicitors.”

ED! has contacted Harry’s representatives for comment.

One slammed him, writing: “All round phony Harry Redknapp strikes again.” Another commented: “This is awful for those involved.”

A third added: “Nice… 🙄😡🤬😤👎🏻👎🏻 #Jerk.”

Others defended him, tweeting: “Harry, evict them. YOU own the property and owe nothing to the tenants. If they become homeless that is their problem NOT yours.” A second asked: “His property, so where is the problem?”

A third pointed out: “It is not Harry’s responsibility to fund their future just because he has money. He bought the property in 2016, so he has rented to them for 3 years at this very reduced rate. They weren’t running to the papers to say how generous he was during that time.”
