Paddy Considine is joining the Game of Thrones prequel cast as King Viserys Targaryen.
The actor, 47, will play King Viserys I in House of The Dragon, which takes place three centuries before the events that unfold in the series Game of Thrones.
His character, according to GOT lore, was chosen by the lords of Westeros – the fictional continent where it is set – to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen, at the Great Council at Harrenhal, largest castle in the Seven Kingdoms.
What has Paddy Considine been in before?
English actor Paddy Considine was in the 2004 Shane Meadows film Dead Man’s Shoes. He played Richard, a former paratrooper who takes revenge on a group of thugs after they abuse his mentally impaired brother.
Paddy was also in the 2007 comedy Hot Fuzz alongside Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. He played DS Andy Wainwright.
His other films include This is England (2006), Macbeth (2015) and The Girl with All the Gifts (2016).
How many episodes of House of The Dragon are there?
House of The Dragon’s story will unfold across 10 episodes, making it – at least initially – much shorter than GOT’s run of 73 episodes.
While network HBO is yet to confirm an air date, it is likely to hit screens at some point in 2022, according to Variety.
What is the Game of Thrones prequel series about?
HBO is yet to release plot details. However, it’s understood the series will focus on the Targaryen family, 300 years before GOT.
One of King Viserys I’s descendants, Daenerys Targaryen (played by Emilia Clarke), was a central character in Game of Thrones.
In the timeline, Viserys I ruled over Westeros around 100 years after the conquest of Aegon – the first king of the Targaryen dynasty who he conquered all Westeros to unite the realm.
Two of Viserys I’s children, Rhaenyra and Aegon II, fought a brutal civil war over his throne. The conflict was later known as the Dance of Dragons.
