Prince Charles delivers funny comeback to ‘royal cousin’ Danny Dyer at Prince’s Trust Awards

New bromance alert?

Danny Dyer couldn’t resist a bit of banter with his royal cousin Prince Charles, when the pair met at the Prince’s Trust Awards this week.

As His Highness shook hands with the celebrity acts at the prestigious award ceremony which took place at the London Palladium, Danny was quick to inform him of their bloodline connection.

And, luckily, Charles saw the funny side.

As Prince Charles passed by, EastEnders actor Danny told him: “I just want to let you know that we are related as well. King Edward III is my grandfather, but I won’t go into it! No he is, on my life!”

A laughing Charles responded: “But a long way away…”

To which Danny replied: “Yeah, I know, good to be here though. Bless ya.”

In quotes printed in the Mail Online, Danny later said: “I think I freaked him out a little bit. He had a good laugh though.”

Later, as the Prince gave a speech in front of the audience, he joked: “I’ve found out today that I’ve discovered a long-lost relation in Daniel Dyer.

“He told me he was descended from Edward III which was interesting, so I must do some research when I get back.”

He also amused the crowds by referring to the actor as Daniel, rather than Danny.

Danny also continued the joke onstage when he said: “When your cousin Charlie rings you up, you’ve got to help the family out, you know what I mean…”

Looking over at Charles sat behind him, Danny cheekily added: “Straight over his nut.”

Danny discovered his royal ancestry on BBC1’s Who Do You Think You Are? when he learnt that not only is his great-grandfather 22 times removed King Edward III, but he is related to William the Conqueror and Henry VIII’s adviser Thomas Cromwell too.

The Essex-born actor went on to present the two-parter Danny Dyer’s Right Royal Family at the start of the year.
