Cheryl says her new song isn’t ‘that deep’ or from a ‘personal experience’

Liam can breathe a sigh of relief!

Cheryl has opened up about her new single Let You – and it appears ex-boyfriend Liam Payne can breathe a sigh of relief as the singer says the new tune isn’t written about a “personal experience”.

The Love Made Me Do It hitmaker has been teasing fans for all week with lyrics from the track, with the ditty finally being released today.

The pair announced their split last summer. They are parents to son Bear, two.

However, now the Geordie star has revealed that the song, which is co-written by her former Girls Aloud bandmate Nicola Roberts, isn’t even “that deep”.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, she said she wanted to write a song that would empower everyone, especially women.

She revealed: “For some reason, sometimes as women we allow a lot of bad behaviour and then we wonder why they treat us badly… it’s about setting boundaries and being like, that’s not okay.”

Cheryl said that the inspiration for the song came to her when she was writing with Nicola and a friend, admitting that their friend was “up to here going through stuff with men”.

Revealing that she didn’t write about a “personal experience”, the former X Factor judge said she isn’t worried about how fans interpret the song.

She said: “I’m not worried, I mean, obviously you know it’s coming from me so that’s bound to happen anyway, but I didn’t sit there writing anything from a personal experience.”

The song marks Cheryl’s return to the charts following a six-month break, with Ent Daily reporting that fans were thrilled at the return of the “queen of pop”.
