Anastacia “terrified” she would lose a breast after Strictly injury

The singer has had two separate battles with breast cancer

Anastacia has revealed she feared she could lose a breast following her injury on Strictly Come Dancing.

The Left Outside Alone star underwent a double mastectomy last year following two separate battles with breast cancer.

She was so “terrified” she’d injured her scar tissue while rehearsing for a ballroom and Latin show that she decided not to take part.

Appearing on Loose Women, the 48-year-old said: “Not doing the dance-off was purely because they didn’t know if I had injured myself so much I would lose it, [my breast].

“It was a fear. I was terrified and at the time, there wasn’t a doctor open on Sunday, so technically, I was a mess on Sunday until Monday, when I could go in and find out that the rip was not to scar tissue and that I would lose the breast.”

Many assumed the singer refused to compete against fellow contestant Melvin Odoom, which led to his elimination.

But this wasn’t the case at all.

“I would have left the show instead, but those are the rules.

“I felt awful about the negative reaction, but the rules are that if someone is not able to dance, it goes to a vote.”

Anastacia also admitted her dance partner Brendan Cole struggled to cope with the fall-out.

“He had a difficult time as well,” she said.

She continued: “I didn’t just have a sore muscle, it was deep.

“We are both fighter though, both feisty, but we worked with it.

“We had a good laugh, give or take.”

Anastacia – who has donated her entire appearance fee to Breast Cancer Awareness – was given the boot last weekend, but she admitted she kind of expected it, as her and Brendan spent the majority of their rehearsals having fun rather than practicing.

“He has a great sense of humour and I really had a lot of laughs with him. We did a lot of hours in the practice room but we were just having a good time.”
