Sneak peek of Call The Midwife Series 9 as cast begins filming!

There will be a bit of a wait to see it on TV, though...

Nonnatus House is back in business after it was confirmed the cast have begun filming for the BBC drama’s ninth series.

Cast members are now back on set just two weeks after the last run finished airing on BBC one.

The hit show’s dedicated Twitter account also announced that production is well underway - and retweeted social media snaps shared by some of the much-loved programme’s stars.

Ella Bruccoleri, who plays Sister Frances, posed with a clapperboard in one image to illustrate TV’s favourite nuns are back in the habit (or ’wimple’, rather).

She also skilfully cradled a very young baby in the crook of her other arm as she smiled for the camera.

The code 'A001' was written on the clapperboard, seemingly suggesting the photo had been taken right at the very start of capturing the first scene on the performers’ first day back.

Aaaand we're off.

"It’s happening," the tweet’s text read, exciting plenty of fans unable to contain their excitement at the prospect of new episodes.

"Can’t wait until the new series," one fan replied.

"Best news ever!" added another.

A third commented: "It can't come soon enough! Enjoy filming everyone because I KNOW we will enjoy watching."

Actor Stephen McGann also reacted to the announcement - but presumably he was already aware.

"Aaaand we're off," he commented as he retweeted the snap of Ella.

He previously hinted it was nearly time to pick up the stethoscope again when posting a pic of him getting into character by having his hair cut.

"As reliable as the first cuckoo of spring. The first Dr Turner hair chop," he told his 48,000 Twitter followers a few days ago, including an image of his longer locks.

Earlier this month it was announced Call The Midwife will return for at least another two runs after the upcoming series.

A Christmas special is expected for later this year and series nine is thought to be scheduled to air next year.
