Christine Lampard blunders unveiling of ‘new’ Dancing On Ice judge

The announcement on Lorraine didn't go to plan...

| Updated:

The latest judge to join the revamped Dancing On Ice was revealed on today’s Lorraine but the announcement didn’t quite go to plan thanks to a wardrobe mishap.

Christine Lampard, standing in for Lorraine Kelly, was so excited to welcome the guest her microphone became entangled with his when they hugged.

Viewers were also bemused at how the judge was described as ‘new’ when they teased his exclusive unveiling… as it was actually a very familiar face to the show – Jason Gardiner.

He has been a judge on previous series and is famed for his no-nonsense comments which are often harsh but fair.

As Christine, who used to present DOI, excitedly revealed the news Jason would be back on the show when it returns next year, her interview with him was delayed after they became stuck together when they hugged.

“I’ve got caught, so sorry!” Christine exclaimed as Jason tried to pull away from her to take a seat on the sofa, only to find their microphone wires had intertwined.

“Even my dress got excited!” Christine joked about the mishap.

When he was freed, Jason said he was delighted to be returning to the ice dancing show.

He said he can’t wait to work with “ice skating royalty” Torvill and Dean again, but while in the past they have appeared as mentors, the Olympians will now also be judges.

Viewers on Twitter said they were happy to see Jason would be back, but questioned why he was hyped up as being a “new” judge when he has been on the show before.

Diversity’s Ashley Banjo will also join the judging panel when the ITV show returns to screens next year after a three year absence.

Jake Quickenden is the latest contestant rumoured to be taking part, as the show has been teasing the audience with who will appear via their Instagram account.

Their latest picture of a woman holding skates has followers speculating it could be Denise from EastEnders or Sinitta.

Also rumoured to be taking part is Katie Price, Alex Gerrard and Saira Khan.

Having originally run on ITV between 2006 and 2014, the series pairs famous faces alongside professional skaters, who each week perform in a bid to impress both the panel and the viewers at home (and avoid falling over).

Meanwhile, Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield will return to present the show.

Phillip and Holly have both said they can’t wait till return to the show, and we can’t wait to watch it!

Phillip said: “I’m often told how much people have missed Dancing on Ice, and with the show so fondly remembered, it’s exciting for us all to now have the chance to breath new life into the show, and of course spending an extra day of the week with Holly is the icing on the cake!”
Holly added: “I’m so excited to be returning to a show that I love so much! Working with Jayne and Chris is always such an honour and it’s even more special as it’s the show that Phil and I first worked on together … it’s full of wonderful memories and I can’t wait to make some new ones… “
