This Morning viewers disgusted by dog item on Friday’s show

Some viewers branded it "animal cruelty"

This Morning viewers were left completely baffled and outraged during Friday’s show after watching an adorable dog named Jack receive acupuncture live on air.

Over the past two years the 14-year-old Corgi has been having acupuncture to help the pain in his back legs.

The procedure consisted of vet Emma placing several needles in Jack’s fur before wiring them up to a system that provides the pooch with small electric shocks.

Emma assured hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, as well as viewers, that the procedure is 100% safe.

Jack lay down calmly as Emma demonstrated how the procedure works while Jack’s owner Sue Foster stood next to him.

Eamonn, 57, said: “You’re putting [the needles] in here and I know what that feels like but at least I can yelp and say ‘I don’t like that, get away from me’ but he can’t.”

Sue hit back saying: “But he would, he would move.”

Explaining exactly what is happening to Jack as he undergoes the procedure Emma said: “Corgis are a little bit like a badly designed bridge and I think they almost need another pair of legs to support them.

“Their spine tends to sag in the middle and as they age they can get bulging disks which is what Jack has.”

She continued: “We’re hitting nerves in the muscle and stimulating nerves in the muscles and the idea is to try and modulate how his body is transmitting and perceiving pain.”

Eamonn went on to explain he had acupuncture in his neck and the procedure “wasn’t pleasant” but the “end result is very, very good”.

The hosts asked Sue how her furry friend is benefiting from having the procedures.

Sue revealed: “He walks easier. When he has this and goes home he rolls upside now and is more relaxed.

“He even plays with his toys more.”

Emma went on to reveal that after 20 minutes she attaches Jack to a system which will send electric currents through the needles.

She said Jack would feel a “buzzing sensation” but nothing drastic.

Viewers watching from home weren’t so pleased with the procedure with some even branding it “animal cruelty”.

One said: “Highly against dog acupuncture….”

“Leave the poor dog alone,” another added.

A third wrote: “A bit uncomfortable seeing a dog have acupuncture.”

A fourth said: “Absolutely disgusting, poor animals. Like they [should] have a choice to be stuck with needles or not! Animal cruelty.”

One agreed: “Dog acupuncture is basically animal cruelty.”

“They’re literally about to electrocute a dog,” another tweeted.
