She told the paper: “I felt guilty reading the scripts myself.

“But this is what happens in life, you can’t plan things and that’s the story they’re telling.”

She went on to say that Laurel’s shady actions don’t make her a bad person and admitted it’s nice to have a bit of ‘conflict’ in her acting.

Charlotte continued: “Laurel is a character who’s a really moral, good person, rather like when she turned into an alcoholic – that doesn’t mean she’s a bad person.

“So I think the audience will enjoy seeing the conflict. And also because Laurel is so nice, it’s good having a bit of dynamic to the character, otherwise she’s just one dimensional.”

Even though Laurel recently rejected Bob when he told her it was her he wanted not Brenda, the couple will reignite their affair this week when Bob hears Laurel has been involved in a car crash.

It’s only a minor accident when Jimmy King reverses into her, but Bob is sent into a panic, worrying that she could have been killed.

He rushes to see her and before long, the pair are kissing passionately in Laurel’s kitchen.
