EastEnders star wants Mel Owen to get revenge on Ian Beale

Talk about holding a grudge

It’s been 18 years since Mel Owen dumped Ian Beale about half an hour after they got married in EastEnders.

For those of you without long memories, Ian lied to Mel about  Lucy (who was just six at the time) having leukaemia.

Well to be more precise he didn’t tell her the truth after tests showed his daughter wasn’t seriously ill because he thought Mel wouldn’t marry him.

Nice, huh?

They ended up tying the knot, but Mel found out the truth shortly after and cut all ties with Ian.

And now Mel is back in the Square, according to actress Tamzin Outhwaite, she’s keen to get revenge for his evil lie all those years ago.

Speaking to Radiotimes.com at the NTAs earlier this week, Tamzin revealed that she hopes Mel will play Ian around.

A lot.

She said: “I think he deserves to be played around with because, although everyone says ‘oh Mel treated Ian really badly’, he was horrific to her.

“I think she’s still got revenge there.”

Now that’s one heck of a grudge.

Tamzin recently returned to Walford as Mel after a 15-year hiatus and is currently embroiled in the missing money saga.

Next week will see Mel up the stakes by manipulating Louise Mitchell into unwittingly help her get to the bottom of the mystery.

It was announced Tamzin would be heading back to the east-end last October.

The actress opened up to The Sun about the decision to return, claiming that it was her daughters, Florence and Marnie, that persuaded her to return to Albert Square.

Tamzin said the deciding factor for taking a job is whether it will allow her to spend her evenings at home with her kids.

“When I ask my kids’ advice – my eldest especially – I say: ‘I have got this job and I don’t know if I should do it?,'” she said. “Her words are always: ‘Can you come home at night?'”

EastEnders boss John Yorke said ahead of her return: ”

“It’s particularly exciting to welcome her back to Walford for an incredible storyline,” he said. “One that will awaken a lot of old ghosts, some great memories, and whole new series of adventures.

“We’re thrilled and flattered to have Tamzin home and can’t wait to reveal where she’s been, and who Melanie Owen is now.”
