EastEnders fans aren’t very happy with Jack Branning after last night’s episode

What was he thinking?

Jack Branning is in trouble with EastEnders fans after last night’s episode which saw Mick and the rest of the Carter clan manage to save The Vic after months of uncertainty.

Thanks to a valuable ring that Halfway managed to skim off the top of the loot from the heist, they had more than enough money to pay back Fi Browning and regain full control of their beloved pub.

The ring, which Halfway tried to give to Whitney Dean believing it to be costume jewellery, turned out to be worth £200,000 which meant the Carters could buy back the freehold which was sold to Weyland and Co. last year.

Obviously all the residents of the Square – and the viewers – were delighted that Mick and Linda would keep their crowns as King and Queen of the Vic.

And it also meant the pub wouldn’t be ripped down and rebuilt as luxury flats.

Something to celebrate indeed.

The delighted regulars happily downed champagne provided on the house before heading off around the Square singing and dancing.

But fans were left puzzled by one resident drinking, smiling and generally looking like the life and soul of the party – Jack Branning.

Viewers complained that Jack’s niece Abi Branning had only been dead six days and not even buried yet while her uncle was dancing around having a whale of a time.

They headed to social media to berate him for his insensitive actions.

“As if Jack Branning is in the Vic doing the conga not even a week after his niece died,” one fan tweeted, while another pointed out that he should probably be with his bereft brother.

A third shocked viewer added: “WTF why is jack singing and dancing #EastEnders Abi just dies….”

And a fourth laughed: “Just caught up on tonight’s #EastEnders and noticed Jack hammered on champagne cheering on a “CONGAAAAA!” a week after Abi died! Bizarre.”

Abi’s life support was switched off last Friday, three weeks after she fell from the roof of the pub Jack was merrily getting drunk in.

She and Lauren headed up there on Christmas Day, trying to coax down their dad Max who was threatening to jump.

They’d just convinced him to come back down when Lauren slipped and dragged Abi down with her.

Abi was then declared brain-stem dead as actress Lorna Fitzgerald left the role after 12 years.
