Rainie Branning has her fair share of haters amongst EastEnders fans – and who can blame them?
She returned to Albert Square earlier this year as Max’s wife in a sham marriage.
The former drug addict is being paid to play the complaint wife in order to win custody of Max’s granddaughter Abi.
But what are her real motives?

Last night (Thursday 5 July), fans got an insight into Rainie’s motivation as she showed a softer side to her character.
Finally opening up about the real reason she wants to get joint custody of baby Abi, she confessed to her husband that she’s unable to have her own children.
And viewers warmed to her after learning that she didn’t enter into the business arrangement with Max for money after all.

Rainie revealed the truth after another explosive row with Max over her petty squabbles with Donna.
Terrified that Rainie’s behaviour might jeopardise their chances of getting custody of Abi, Max threatened to back out of their deal.
However, insisting she’s not in it for the money, Rainie admitted that she can’t have children and that little Abi is her last chance at motherhood.

Fans felt a surge of sympathy for the character, played by Tanya Franks.
One wrote: “I actually feel for Rainie.”
Another said: “I can’t deny it anymore, I’ve fell in love with rainie Branning.”
A third simply tweeted: “Awwww,Rainie!!”
A more philosophical viewer pondered: “Don’t know what to make of Rainie. It looks like she’s really trying but then she does something that reminds us of the same old Rainie. Will be interesting to see where this will lead.”
Sadly, though, Max refused to believe Rainie’s heartfelt confession and continued to insist that their agreement is over…
So where does this leave Rainie now?
We know her mum Cora is returning next week… Do the pair team up against Max to secure custody of Abi?
