The former factory boss – played by Shayne Ward – had just donated one of his kidneys to his half-sister Carla to save her life.

But despite both Aidan and Carla coming through their operations with no complications, Aidan dissolved into tears once Johnny and Kate had left his side, leaving fans to wonder if everything was as okay as he was making out.

It’s no secret that Shayne will be saying goodbye to the cobbles later this year and fans are now wondering if his exit is going to be much more tragic than originally thought.

“Is Aidan going to die?” wondered one viewer, while another commented: “Ok I need to know what’s going on with Aidan. I get that donating an organ is a big deal but it seems to be about more than that.”

Another quipped: “#Aidan is on his way out, better start making the wreaths Tracey.”

And a fourth added: “Why do I think aidan’s surgery didn’t go as well as they’re making out?”

Former X Factor champ, Shayne, announced he would departing Corrie back in November and since then viewers of the ITV soap have been speculating about how he would leave.

The most popular theory to date was that he’d head off into the sunset with ex-girlfriend Eva Price who is currently secretly pregnant with his baby.
