Coronation Street star Sean Wilson sets the record straight on ‘begging’ claims

He's returning for a stint as Martin Platt

| Updated:

Actor Sean Wilson, who has recently agreed to return to Coronation Street for a guest stint, has hit back at claims the soap begged him to come back.

Some newspapers have been reporting that Corrie bosses had to go above and beyond to get Sean, who last walked the famous cobbles 12 years ago, to agree to a guest stint.

Sean will be heading back to Weatherfield in March as part of the controversial storyline in which his on-screen son, David Platt, is drugged and raped by newcomer Josh Tucker.

He’s clarified on social media that he’s ‘more than happy to be back.’

Taking to Twitter, he said: “Hey guys..just thought I’d say that I’m more than pleased to be back on the cobbles.,the decision came from pure artistic reasoning and there was no ‘begging’ involved..See you all soon.”

It’s a mutual feeling too as Corrie released a short statement earlier this month confirming Sean’s return and how chuffed they are about it.

It read: “We are very excited to confirm that Sean Wilson will be returning as Martin Platt for a short time in March. Welcome back, Sean!”

Sean starred on Corrie for 20 years as Martin Platt.

He had his fair share of controversial storylines in that time, including an affair with his 16-year-old neighbour, Katy Harris (Lucy-Jo Hudson)

Martin upset the entire nation when he cheated on his then wife, Gail, with his sexy nursing colleague Rebecca – played by Jill Halfpenny.

And he even hooked up with Gail’s best friend, Sally Webster, after they were divorced.

No wonder he had to move away, he’d run out of women to woo on the Street!
