Coronation Street star Julia Goulding admits awkward crush on co-star Simon Gregson

Awks.

Julia Goulding has admitted to having a crush on her Coronation Street co-star Simon Gregson, who plays Steve McDonald, when she was a teenager.

Julia – better known to fans as Shona Ramsey – has been a fan favourite since joining the show in 2016 but was a fan herself before she stepped foot on the famous cobbles.

And when teenage Julia watched the ITV soap, she was crushing on one of the actors she now works with.

Awkward.

Speaking on this morning’s Lorraine, she said: “I remember meeting David Neilson, who plays Roy [Cropper] and Simon.

“They were the first two people who shook my hand. I remember it being odd. I didn’t know what to do with myself.”

She added: “It’s fine now, he’s great. And I’m not five anymore.”

Julia also spoke about the highly controversial storyline which sees Shona’s partner, David Platt, raped by another man.

She hinted that the attack will put strain on their relationship.

Julia said: “There’s lots of pushes and pulls and plenty of bumps along the way but that’s what makes it interesting. We can never be happy too long.”

She also defended the storyline, which has already seen a backlash from some fans, despite not even being aired yet.

She said: “We have a great research team and Corrie, as ever, they’re gonna be handling this really, really sensitively. I’m so excited to be part of this storyline.

“It’s important to do this storyline, just to highlight it and get it out there, make it less taboo and give people the opportunity to speak out.”

In the next few weeks viewers will see David build a friendship with newcomer Josh Tucker as they train for a charity boxing match.

Their friendship will take a dark turn when Josh drugs and rapes David after a night out.

Coronation Street continues tonight at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV
