So Sam Dingle popped the question to Lydia Hart in possibly the most awkward marriage proposal Soapland has ever seen. He asked the factory cleaner to marry him, after mistakenly accusing her of being a prostitute – and she still said yes.
Thanks to Kerry Wyatt getting the complete wrong end of the stick when she spotted Rishi handing Lydia some cash, she helped Sam come to the conclusion that Lydia was selling herself to him.

A panicked Sam decided to reclaim his woman, so he donned a bright yellow shirt, a bunch of red roses and got down on one knee.
“I know I’m not loaded, or clever, and I ain’t got a clue about opera and all that, but will you marry us?” he asked.
How could a girl refuse an offer like that?
Fans took to Twitter to poke fun at Sam’s lacklustre proposal.
One said: “Sam looks like a traffic light in that shirt and red roses.”
A second tweeted: “FFS why do they make Sam do this [bleep]?”
And another pointed out: “Sam in a suit…looks like something out of Ashes to Ashes.”
Others were quick to point out that, for a village idiot, Sam gets more than his fair share of women.
“Sam in Emmerdale is lovely but he’s been engaged/married to more people than I’ve been in relationships,” tweeted one viewer.
Another wrote: “Sam Dingle from Emmerdale is getting engaged and I can’t even get a text back. Tragic.”
And a third said: “Someone please tell me how Sam manages to bag all these women.”
After explaining to Sam that she wasn’t prostituting herself, but had got herself into some financial trouble and had been working double shifts while pretending to Rishi she was two people, Lydia accepted Sam’s proposal.
