John Barrowman reveals details of hospital horror dash

He was struck down with an illness while in America

Earlier this year John Barrowman was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery.

He appeared on Friday’s Loose Women alongside Andrea McLean, Denise Van Outen, Stacey Solomon, and Kaye Adams and opened up about his frightening illness.

Kaye asked: “How are you feeling?”

“I’m feeling fine,” he said. “I had an appendicitis that came from nowhere.

“I woke up with a stomach ache, and I had a stomach ache through the evening, and I woke up the next day and I still had a stomach ache, and it started getting progressively worse and my sister kept checking and she didn’t tell me but she was starting to panic because I’ve never been sick.

“When she came in the bedroom and I was starting to vomit, sorry to be graphic, I was vomiting in the sink, I collapsed on the floor, I couldn’t move and I just said to her: ‘get me to the hospital’.”

John then said they went to see his own doctor first as that’s the way it works in America, but the doctor told him he had to get to a hospital in an ambulance.

“I got to the hospital, they said ‘you’ve gotta go into surgery’, so I go in, they put me on a table for the surgery and they lie you on top of this thing to hold your head up, and I didn’t think I was going to come out of surgery.

“I was by myself, I didn’t get to see my husband Scott, I didn’t get to see my mum and dad, I didn’t get to see my sister, I was rushed in.”

He continued: “As I’m about to go under, and they’re putting a catheter in me, this guy looks at me and he goes: ‘I love your work, can I have a selfie when you come out of surgery?'”

Andrea looked visibly shocked and Stacey was so appalled, she said: “Did you report him because that is so wrong?”

But John just said: “No, I thought it was funny!”

This all happened two months ago and the Scottish actor was taken to the Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, California.

The Doctor Who and Torchwood star posted regular video updates of his stay for worried fans.

He shared with his Instagram followers that that he’d been woken up at 6am and taken down to surgery.

He said: “I feel a bit like I’ve been hit by a car and I’m just sore all over. My throat is sore because of the tube. I’m just sore all over.”

We’re glad to hear he’s on the mend now.
